Why can’t I enter an email address for a company?

In OWNER, only individuals can have an email address, not companies. This ensures that email registration remains clear and easily searchable.

Many companies use general email addresses, such as info@company.com or administration@company.com. In OWNER, these must be linked to a person, just like personal email addresses. This is a deliberate choice because:

  1. You always know where to find an email.
    Since email addresses are exclusively linked to individuals, you don’t have to search separately within both persons and companies. This prevents confusion and makes retrieving email communication faster.
  2. Emails are always associated with a contact person.
    Even if a general email address is used by multiple employees, it is always registered as a contact person in OWNER. This makes it easier to find emails and prevents email addresses from being stored in multiple locations.
  3. Automatic email linking remains reliable.
    OWNER uses email addresses to correctly register communication. By always linking an email address to a person, this functionality remains reliable and consistent.

Automatic linking of persons to companies

To make registration even more efficient, OWNER can automatically link persons to companies based on their email addresses. This works as follows:

When you enter a domain name for a company (e.g., company.com),

All persons with an email address ending in @company.com are automatically linked to that company.

This setting is optional and can be managed via:

Settings → Contacts → General → “Automatically link persons to companies”
