# How do I create a manual sales invoice for a correction or discount?

## Create a sales invoice yourself for a correction, discount or one-time costs.

Not everything runs through the automatic sales invoices from the rental contract. For a correction, a discount or one-time costs, you create a sales invoice yourself.

## How to create a sales invoice

1. Go to **Financial** \> **Sales invoices**.
2. Click **New** at the top right.
3. Choose the owner, the recipient and the sending method, and add the sales items.
4. Save. The sales invoice is now under **Concept** (drafts). Accept the draft to make it final.

## Choose the right sales item

Always choose a real sales item, for example base rent. If you use an accounting integration, this sales item must be linked to a general ledger account. Put the fact that it's a correction, discount or down payment in the subject of the sales invoice, not in the sales item.

| Situation | Sales item |
| --- | --- |
| Rent discount | Rent, with a negative amount |
| Correction to an earlier sales invoice | The same sales item as on that sales invoice, for example base rent |

## Common situations

### Retroactive indexation

Is an indexation applied later, for example because the index figure wasn't known yet? Then OWNER doesn't create an automatic sales invoice for the difference over the past months. You invoice that difference with a manual sales invoice.

### Sales invoice from the wrong owner

**Tip:** a structural rent discount is better recorded as a sales item in the rental contract. See [How to apply a rent discount](https://knowledge.owner.app/en/apply-rent-discount?hsLang=en).
