# Which indexation methods are there and how do you link them?
## All indexation methods per country, which ones work automatically, and how to add and link a custom method.
The indexation method you choose determines whether OWNER calculates the new rent automatically. Here you can see all methods per country, and how to add a custom method and link it to a rental contract.

## Overview of all methods
You can find the methods under **Settings \> Modules \> Contracts \> Indexations \> Methods**.

| Fixed indexation | Netherlands | Yes, with the fixed percentage you set |
| Flemish Region (commercial & residential leases before 01-01-2019) | Belgium | Yes |

All indexation methods are under Settings \> Modules \> Contracts \> Indexations \> Methods.
**Note:** For Vrije sector, Middenhuur and Sociale huur, OWNER doesn't calculate automatically yet and doesn't yet take the Dutch points system (WWS) into account. For now, you index these rental contracts manually, by deviating from the scheduled indexation. Automatic calculation is on the roadmap. **Outside the Netherlands and Belgium**, there are no country-specific methods yet. There, you work with a custom method with a fixed percentage.
## Adding a custom method
### Step 1 – Open the methods
1. Go to **Settings \> Modules \> Contracts \> Indexations \> Methods**.
### Step 2 – Create the method
1. Click **New**.
2. Choose the **Country** and give the method a clear name under **Name**, for example "Fixed 3%".
3. Enter the percentage under **Indexation values** (use **+** to add a value) and click **Create**.
With New you add a custom method with a fixed percentage.
**Tip:** a custom method is useful if you index by the same percentage every year. See [How do I index by the same percentage every year?](https://knowledge.owner.app/en/fixed-percentage-indexation?hsLang=en)
## Linking a rental contract to a method
### Step 1 – Open the rental contract
1. Go to **Contracts \> Rental contracts** and open the rental contract.
2. Click the pencil to edit the rental contract.
### Step 2 – Fill in the indexation
1. Go to the **Indexation** section.
2. Choose the **Indexation method** and enter the indexation date under **Next indexation**.
3. If needed, enter a minimum or maximum percentage (see [How do I set a minimum or maximum indexation percentage?](https://knowledge.owner.app/en/minimum-maximum-indexation?hsLang=en)).
4. Save the rental contract.
OWNER now schedules the indexation for the indexation date. If you switch methods later, first check what the rental contract and the general terms and conditions say.
