# How do I index by the same percentage every year?

## Index by a fixed percentage with the Fixed indexation method or a custom method.

Want to index by the same percentage every year, instead of by a CPI figure? Then use a method with a fixed percentage.

## How to set a fixed percentage

### Step 1 – Choose or create a method with a fixed percentage

1. Go to **Settings \> Modules \> Contracts \> Indexations \> Methods**.
2. Use the **Fixed indexation** method, or click **New** and create a custom method with the percentage you want, for example "Fixed 3%".

### Step 2 – Link the rental contract

1. Open the rental contract and click the pencil.
2. In the **Indexation** section, choose the method with the fixed percentage and check the date under **Next indexation**.
3. Save.

Because the percentage is fixed, OWNER doesn't have to wait for a CPI figure. So the indexation is ready on time.

**Tip:** outside the Netherlands and Belgium, a custom method with a fixed percentage is the way to index.
