# How do I create a credit invoice?

## Credit a sales invoice via Actions \> Create credit.

A credit invoice is a sales invoice with a negative amount. You create it from the sales invoice you want to credit.

## How to create a credit invoice

1. Open the sales invoice you want to credit.
2. Click **Actions**.
3. Choose **Create credit**.

OWNER creates a credit invoice for the full amount (100%).

You create a credit invoice via Actions.

## What happens to the money?

| Situation | Result |
| --- | --- |
| **The sales invoice had not been paid yet** | The sales invoice and the credit invoice cancel each other out. The tenant doesn't have to pay anything anymore. |
| **The sales invoice had already been paid** | The paid amount is added to the debtor's balance. This balance is settled against the next sales invoice. Are there already open sales invoices? ## Only want to credit part of it?

The credit invoice always credits 100%. Want to credit part of it or give a discount? Then create a manual sales invoice with a negative amount. See [How do I create a manual sales invoice?](https://knowledge.owner.app/en/manual-sales-invoice?hsLang=en)

Was a sales invoice sent from the wrong owner? Credit it and create a new sales invoice for the right owner.
